HOW ARE WE GOING TO GET RID OF YOUR MOUSE PROBLEM?

Firstly let us explain how we feel your pain if you are suffering from a mouse infestation.

It isn't a pleasant feeling to be sharing your beautiful home or your business with an infestation of mice.

We understand you will already have tried to get rid of the mice on your own, who wouldn't, it is only natural to want to protect your home from invaders!

Usually, by this point, you will have been on Amazon or EBay and spent lots of money on traps, poisons and potions, sonic devices, 'humane mouse traps', and all manner of other gadgets and gizmos.

You may even of tried old wives tales too, such as, peppermint oil, lavender oil, conkers, chilli powder, garlic cloves, etc, etc.

But you still have a mouse problem!!! We get it. We understand.

The Pest Interceptors have seen it all before, so do not worry, your mouse problem is nothing new to us.  Mouse problems are something we deal with on a daily basis, sometimes 10 mouse eradication jobs come in on a single day!

The Pest Interceptors have never been beaten by a mouse infestation…EVER!!! Let's see how we get rid of your mice, professionally, properly and permanently.

Please read on, because getting rid of mice, isn't always as easy as it might first seem. (But you probably already know this, otherwise you wouldn't be on this website!)

ARE ALL PEST CONTROL COMPANIES THE SAME? HOW ARE THE PEST INTERCEPTORS DIFFERENT?

We understand that the stress caused by mice on you, and your family members, can make you vulnerable to unscrupulous pest control companies that will take advantage of your stress and worry.

They may tell you a price over the phone, without any other details like what their treatment for mice entails.

They may tell you that you will only need one or maybe two visits to be rid of your mouse problem (we will show you how this is wrong and how it won't get rid of the mouse problem in a moment, so keep reading).

They might tell you that the set price for 3 visits will only cover you until the problem is gone away, so if 'they say' the problem is solved after 1 visit, you lose the money you’ve paid for the 3 visits!!! (Yes we hear this one ALL the time!)

We don't and won't do these terrible and misleading practices. We want you to tell others how impressed you have been with us!

Our business is built on trust, transparency, educating our customers on how treatments work, and referrals from super happy customers, like these

We believe that helping our customers to understand the pest control processes is so important that we even have a YouTube Channel that is dedicated to helping you, our customer, to fully understand treatment procedures and pest control methods.

We spend time to explain all the options available to you. What you can do about an infestation of mice and what won't work to get rid of a mouse problem. We will explain how our treatments work, the pros and cons of different mouse treatments and why, most of the time, rodenticides (poisons) should never be used to treat a mouse problem, especially by professional pest control businesses, who should know the law properly and why rodenticides should only be used as a last resort.

If you would like to know what the main differences are between a House mouse and a Field mouse, and why rodenticides should NOT be used, take a quick look here.

WHAT QUESTIONS TO ASK A PEST CONTROL COMPANY WHEN GETTING A QUOTE TO ERADICATE MOUSE INFESTATIONS

For legal and animal welfare reasons, you will always require 3 visits.

Three visits is also the only way to be sure that there are no more mice present. Only on the 3rd visit can the pest controller say that you are now mouse free. There is zero point in doing 'half a job' when it comes to mouse infestations! In fact, if there are any mice left in your house, the problem will be immeasurably more difficult to control in the future because of rodenticide resistance and trap shyness, when weeks or months down the road you realise you were never actually mouse free at all!

If you are being told you only need one or two visits simply ask the 'professional' pest control company these questions:

1 - "How many visits will be required?" If they say they only need to do 1 or even two visits, ask them this. "How can you to say for definite there are no more mice?" (It is impossible with less than 3 visits.)

2 - "If you are using professional rodenticides, is it legal to leave those dangerous products in my house?" (All professional rodenticides must be removed from your house at the end of the pest control treatment.)

3 - "How do you know if we are infested by House mice and not Field mice?" (Remember rodenticides can only be used on House mice. Any mouse treatment MUST start with trapping mice to identify what species they are before even thinking about using rodenticide.)

4 - "Is it legally compliant to use rodenticides straight away without identifying the type of mice?" (No it's not.)

5 - "Do they comply with CRRU best practice (Campaign for Responsible Rodenticide Use)? If not, why not?" (We all need to care about the environment!)

6 - "Will you find out how the mice are getting into my home?" (Although this is not always possible due to mice being able to get through a gap of only 5mm! It should be one of the first things done in any mouse treatment.)

GETTING RID OF MICE IS EASY... JUST THROW SOME POISON DOWN, THAT WILL KILL THE MICE, THAT'S OK ISN'T IT?

NO IT'S NOT O.K.!!!

That is, unless you want to kill birds of prey such as Barn owls, Kestrels and many other hawk and owl species, not to mention Foxes and protected animals such as Badgers.  This happens through secondary poisoning as small mammals, such as Field mice, are these top predators source of food.

If this isn't already enough of a massive reason to never use rodenticides on Field mice infestations, perhaps the thought of accidentally killing your cat or dog, or maybe, a neighbour's cat or dog, will sway you to take a different approach when it comes to getting rid of mice!

Basically, everything that will eat mice can be killed by eating a mouse that is full of mouse poison!

All mice, other than House mice, live their lives mainly outside of your house, only using your house as a harbourage to leave to forage outside for food. House mice rarely (if ever) leave your house, therefore not becoming food for other animals and subsequently not causing secondary poisoning to innocent animals.

This difference in behaviour is one of the main reasons that rodenticides should never be used on mice that aren't House mice. When Field mice, wood mice, have eaten poison it makes them really easy pickings for predatory animals such as Barn owls. This is what leads to secondary poisoning in them and other rare and endangered apex predators!

We have found that 95% of mouse calls we attend are actually Field/Wood mice not House mice! Can you see why poisons (rodenticides) should never be used to control Field mice now?

There is also the legal side of things to consider. In the pest control world there is a saying that is repeated not just in the U.K. but around the world. This saying is, "THE LABEL IS THE LAW".

This means that the packet of mouse poison you have bought from the local shops, or from Amazon, will always have a label on it explaining how to use the product and what the product can be used to kill.

Does the label say you can use it on Field mice, Wood mice, Harvest mice, Shrews or Voles?

It doesn't does it.

It will say for use on House mice. House mice are different to all the other mice we mentioned above.

So how do you know what type of mouse you are being infested by?

Usually it will say on the label of your mouse killer product something like: FOR USE ONLY ON RATS (Rattus norvegicus) AND MICE (Mus musculus or Mus domesticus).

Mus musculus or Mus domesticus is a House Mouse. Not any other type of mouse, i.e. Field mouse. So these rodenticides must not be used on anything other than House mice!!!

95% of mouse infestations that we deal with are Field mice! Field mice are the favourite meal of many natural and endangered species. So poisoning a Field mouse really does have dire consequences  for the environment, not to mention the poor predator that may die a slow and agonising death!

SO, HOW DOES THE PEST INTERCEPTORS APPROACH TO A MOUSE INFESTATION DIFFER? HOW DO WE NOT HARM THE ENVIRONMENT?

The Pest Interceptors follow the 'THINK WILDLIFE: Campaign for Responsible Rodenticide Use' guidelines.

THINK WILDLIFE.jpg

This means that we take our responsibilities to the environment and animal welfare seriously. In fact, if there was a way to get rid of a mouse infestation without killing a mouse, then that’s what we would do! The Pest interceptors always follow the Campaign for Responsible Rodenticide Use Code of Best Practice (CRRU).

We ALWAYS START WITH TRAPS to identify what type of mice you are infested by. If you get a quote from someone who doesn't start with traps, ask them why!!! They should know better!!!

IS THE PEST INTERCEPTORS MOUSE TREATMENT SUCCESSFUL?

The Pest Interceptors have never been beaten by a mouse infestation…EVER.

You will usually require only 3 visits over a two week period. On rare occasions more visits may be required, but this is rare, 9 times out of ten, 3 visits is enough to make your home mouse free.

REMEMBER, it must be 3 visits, as a minimum, for legal and animal welfare reasons, and it is the only way to know for sure that you are actually rid of all the mice in your home.

HOW DOES THE TREATMENT FOR A MOUSE INFESTATION WORK? WHAT IS THE PROCESS?

On the first visit we start the process of identifying what species of mice you have infesting your home. We must identify what species of mice it is that you are infested by, remember that poisons can only be used on House mice. This is done with traps. We will also use U.V. Tracking dust to help show us the routes the mice are taking so we can identify any entry points on the second visit. U.V. Tracking dust glows brightly under a Black Light torch, showing us where the mice are gaining access to your home. The entry points can then be sealed on the next visit. To see how this works take a look at this YouTube video.

On the second visit we shall identify what type of mice you are having problems with. It is usually Field mice, we estimate that 95% of the time it is. If it is Field mice, we shall carry on with traps to clear up the population (a large population of Field mice would only be 12 or so mice, so trapping is the most environmentally sound and least toxic way to do this). We shall also endeavour to find and seal any entry points that the U.V. Tracking dust has highlighted.

On the third visit we will hopefully be just collecting empty traps, as we will of sealed the mice outside, where they belong. Sometimes we may of sealed a few mice inside, if this happens you may need another visit. There is no point in doing half a job with any species of mice, so it is better to make sure there are no straggler mice left inside.

WHAT IF IT IS HOUSE MICE (NOT FIELD MICE) INFESTING OUR HOME? WHAT HAPPENS THEN?

If you are unlucky enough to be infested by House mice the level of pest control used has to step up a gear, the main two reasons for this are:

1 - House mice are incredibly clever. They are on a different level of intelligence to all other species of mice. They will avoid traps, they will avoid the baits commonly used on traps, they will ignore traps if they see a dead mouse in them, they can be fully resistant to poisons, some won't even eat poisons. They are just in a different league to all other mice.

2 - House mice breed like wildfire! Seriously, they make Rabbits look like they aren't interested in breeding! One pregnant female House mouse can potentially turn into a House mouse population of 2000 mice!!!

But, don't panic, our professional arsenal of products and techniques will mean we can always get rid of a House mouse infestation too.

It can be a bit of a challenge, but that’s why you need the Pest Interceptors, because we love a challenge and we have never been beaten by a mouse infestation…not even by a House mice infestation…EVER!!!

Just to put into perspective the extra effort that is required to solve a House mouse infestation, take a look at this video on our YouTube channel. House mice infestations can be really difficult to control, even for dedicated professionals like the Pest Interceptors, it just takes the correct methodical approach and the correct professional products and kit, and above all, the knowhow amassed over ten years solving mouse problems to be successful.
