Why Insects and Ants are a Nuisance
Some insects can just be annoying, and many households have had issues with ants at
some point, but they can cause more issues than you think. Ants and other insects
can cause trouble as they can navigate through small spaces as well, meaning they travel through some
dirty areas of buildings, this increases the risks of food contamination, which is certainly problematic for
businesses in hospitality and food.
Moths, like meal moths, feed on grain and dry foods and again, if you are a business in the food industry
this can be a problem. As can the dried fruit beetle around stored foods. Not only do you want them
removed from your storage, but the issues of them getting caught in packaging can also lead to
consumers having issues with your products.
It isn’t just businesses that have trouble with moths. Households can face problems with carpet moths,
carpet beetles, and clothes moths as they can cause damage to fabrics and put holes in clothes,
furniture, and carpets. Other flying insects like cluster flies can be a nuisance as they cluster in lofts
during winter months.
We know that bedbugs are an insect, however, we deal with bedbugs we deal with in a separate section
of the website, due to the special nature of dealing with them. Many insects and ants are also a
nuisance because they can bite and sting, so whether at home or in a commercial property you will want
to look at getting rid of insects and ants.
How to Spot an Insect or Ant Infestation

With ants, you are likely to notice them through a trail of ants. This is because they travel long distances
to find food and they leave a scent trail so that other ants can get to the food source they find.
If you have a moth infestation, then you may not notice the insects in order to see there is a problem. It
could be that you notice your clothes are starting to get small holes appear in them. For commercial
properties, especially those with food storage, you might not find out until you take something out of

DEALING WITH INSECTS & ANTS
What you can do
You may think that it is possible to deal with an insect or ant infestation yourself. In the past, you may
have done so with store-bought spray bottle insecticides, powders, or traps. However, we don’t always
recommend these as they do not always get to the source of the problem. Some natural remedies that
people discuss include tea tree and other essential oils, which are said to repel flying insects, or using
lemon juice. But again, these don’t deal with the source, they are repellents and not pest control.
You can do things like being aware of open windows and doors, it is an easy route in for insects. Seal cracks in the property. Most insects can make use of small holes and so you want to restrict how they get into the property. Even something as simple as avoiding leaving standing water. Some insects, like mosquitoes, are drawn to water sources.
